Policies

Low Price Guarantee:
I guarantee that I offer a lower price than any agency for a comparable service. If presented with a price lower than the price I've offered, I will work for $5/hour less than the lower price.

Promise of Satisfaction:
If, after the first session, you are not satisfied with the service being offered, you are not required to make any payment for the session and any agreement for future sessions will be cancelled.

Referrals:
All referrals which result in a new tutoring student will knock down the hourly rate by $5/hour with no limits.

Materials:
Depending on the subject, certain materials might be required. These are to be provided by the student.

Location:
Tutoring sessions will be located in public meeting places (the Fletcher Free Library, for example). I am happy to tutor at your home for an additional fee of $5/session if in Burlington or $10/session if in the greater Burlington area. If you live a bit further away, an arrangement is possible. Please contact me for details.

Payment:
Payment is required in form of check or cash up front prior to the beginning of every session.

Session Length:
The minimum session length offered is 1 hour. For test prep, sessions are typically 2 hours. This can be a long time for some students and sometimes breaks are appropriate. Breaks are not counted towards the total session time, within reason.

Session Contract:
Prices are higher on a session by session basis than for an agreed upon number of sessions. The length of a typical session contract is ten sessions.

Pricing:
My policy is to charge a good amount less than what the incorporated tutoring agencies charge. I use a 20 hour SAT sessions as my baseline. This would cost $1400 (or $70/hr) at one of the test prep companies in Burlington. Therefore, $50/hour is my base price and depending on subject and number of sessions I move it up or down accordingly.

Cancellations:
Cancellations within 24 hours of the session will result in a charge of 1 hour added to the cost of the next session. Cancellations made more than a day in advance can be rescheduled that week for no charge. Multiple cancellations without rescheduling could result in an additional fee or a discontinuation of the tutoring sessions. This is my "hard" policy. First time mix ups are almost always uncharged.
